    You need to at least be a little bit critical of your own religion and your own religious tradition. There needs to be a healthy amount of skepticism at the end of the day. If you just try to jump through hoops trying to eliminate or at least cover up all the negative elements to your religious tradition, you're either going to become insecure and miserable, or you're going to become fanatically defensive and dogmatic about your religious beliefs. Just accept that as a leftist/woman/LGBT person/whatever, you're always going to have a tension with the religious tradition, and that's fine
